Dear Zindagi -- Love me or Love me not!

Dear Zindagi,

You have been very faithful to me, perhaps much more than I have been to you my entire life. You have shown me the paths treading which I today am where I could not have been had I not taken your right advice at the right time. When I was not family-oriented, you gave me friends to share sorrows and joy. When I was fed up of Delhi, you flew me to Bangalore. When I was losing interest in academics at college, you inspired Poetry in me. When I was alone, you made me awesome friends online.

Keeping aside the regular ups and downs which I don't mind, it has been a true roller-coaster ride with both of us sharing the steering wheel at times as and when required. Life is a game, everybody knows, but not all understand it, not many know how to play and very few play it diligently as well as sincerely. Those who do have everything they command and need. The basic aim of life is happiness and you taught me that. Today I keep a balance between my work and personal life because I know there is no positive outcome of indulging in rat race of today's corporate world.

You showed me a way out of that when I was frustrated and allowed me to be calmer and uninterested. Several times I felt out of place, I even lost faith in you, Dear Zindagi, but you were determined to bring me out of hibernation when I was not. You did not lose faith in me and earned my trust when I couldn't trust anybody else. I learned that clouds with silver lining are not a myth, but a reality we chose to ignore. I hope your lessons will continue and I will solve all your exercises and clear the exams with merit.

There were questions, at times, to which I had no answers. The only way to absolution was to surrender myself to you and cleanse my soul with your prerogatives. And I did that; and discovered that you always give another chance to the individual who deserves it. Maybe I deserved too. What we do not understand about life is there is always a way; way to heal and be healed, way to express and exclaim our expressions, feelings and sentiments, and way to beat sorrow and claim joy.

The paths I paved were yours, and they intersected in such an unexpected manner that I met someone who could understand me and who I could understand. Today I am an enriched husband and have an innocent, smiling, beautiful companion living her life with me. What more I could seek from you! Just that you keep showering your love and blessings on us as well as my near and dear ones. You, dear Zindagi, are indeed beautiful, no doubt about that! Have a good life, you too. Be mine! Will keep meeting you, as always, with expected or unexpected twists and turns. Let's play again!

Love me or not... though I will, forever.

Yours truly
VPS 'hitaishi'

Saffolalife #ChhoteKadam Initiative

We are predominantly aware that today's lifestyle takes a great toll on our health, the everyday increasing stress and processed junk eating habits are not doing any good to our body, especially our heart. Still we tend to ignore the health advisory and put ourselves on the dangerous path of heart diseases. It is estimated that 30% of unnatural human deaths (not covering accidents) are linked to heart diseases and/or heart attack. On the occasion of World Heart Day, therefore, it is instrumental to blog about the small steps in order to keep one's big heart perfectly healthy.

Life is very precious and we tend to ignore this beautiful quote unless something bad happens to our health. But let's take a pledge on the eve of World Heart Day that we would start incorporating healthy habits in our life and diet on daily basis.

This year, on the eve of World Heart Day, Saffolalife inspired India to embrace a fresh, new perspective on heart health. It showed how simple lifestyle changes, specifically staying active, eating better, and being happy, are actually #ChhoteKadam to healthy heart.

  • Staying Active
This is perhaps the best formula for being healthy and avoiding health risks. Just a few minutes of exercise in the morning or evening exponentially reduces the risk of heart diseases among other health hazards. Walking for shorter distances instead of commuting on a bike or car should be the top priority on our working days. Cycling or playing sports can be incorporated in the schedule of non-working days.

  • Eating Better
Influence of wide availability of processed junk foods and lesser time available to prepare home cooked meal is one of the major concerns when it comes to secure the health of our heart. Avoid processed foods easily available for consumption. Buy more organic foods and give helping hand to family members preparing home cooked meals from scratch. Avoid processed fruit juices even; only consume fresh juices instead of packed / canned ones.

  • Being Happy
Being happy is the fundamental requirement in order to stay hale and hearty, and is the ultimate success of our lives. It is believed that being happy cancels out all negative energies surrounding us and provide rejuvenation to mind and body, thus playing its vital role in maintaining our positive state of mind, in turn keeping us healthy.

The matter of the fact is that everybody is aware about these pearls of wisdom but seldom follow them. It is high time that we take note of our current health and start working towards its long-lasting improvement. Recent findings from the World Heart Federation reveal that even small lifestyle changes like being active, eating better, and staying happy can make your heart up to 50% healthier. Be healthy, stay healthy.

P.S. -- I am joining the Saffolalife #ChhoteKadam initiative in association withBlogAdda and follow these small steps for a healthy heart.

The Advice That Mattered

I have always been fascinated by starry nights. The smile of the stars, the loneliness of night, the embrace of breeze had always pushed me closer to the almighty Universe. I always paid special attention to any study or reading or viewing material pertaining to stars or our Universe. I remember reading for hours the Astronomy encyclopedia and watching the tv serial Brahmaand, featuring renowned astrophysicist Dr. Jayant Narlikar and also starring two Universe fascinated adolescents - Ravi and Bhaskar, both cleverly named as Hindi synonyms of our own star, the Sun. The serial used to be telecasted under Chhutti-Chhutti program every summer vacations on Doordarshan in the effervescent 90s.

I was so mesmerized with this series that I never used to miss even a single minute of the episodes and used to watch the same series over and over every year. And sometime in those moments, overwhelming my natural curiosity to understand more and more about stars and the Universe, one idea got vehemently stuck in my psyche that I want to become an Astronaut.

Astronomy became my obsession and Aeronautical Engineering my ambition. But due to different circumstances, I could not enrol for Aeronautical Engg. from PEC, Chandigarh, the same institute from where the eminent Kalpana Chawla did her graduation. After my ECE engineering, I got busy with a lucrative career in order to make a living.

But I never left Astronomy. In fact, I made it my no. 1 hobby and kept pursuing it full devotion and passion. I read books, met with like-minded people and through some lucky turn of events, met with my Astronomy guru, Dr. Jayant Narlikar himself. Below is the pic of two of us together at IUCAA.

Life always has different plans for us. When I thought that I was drifting away from Astronomy to steer my newfound passion in Poetry and confronted Dr. Narlikar with my self-doubt, he gave me an #AdviceThatMattered. He advised me why not write poetry pertaining to Astronomy, so that I do not lose one in pursuit of the other. And the following poem of mine then materialized, which has been appreciated by many.

रात और तारे

ये तारे जब
जगमगाते हैं नभ में,
तब ज़िन्दगी से तंग आकर
आ जाता हूँ मैं आगन में,

ऐसा प्रतीत होता है -
अकेला नहीं हूँ मैं,
इन सूनी, तन्हा रातों में;

सपनों में खो जाता हूँ;
उस चाँद का चेहरा दिल में लिए,
फिर रात को सो जाता हूँ ||

--

The ambition of Astronomy used to be so deep-rooted in my adolescent years that after watching Dr. Narlikar and his tv series Brahmand and reading Jules Verne's Twenty Thousand Leagues Under The Sea, I had got an idea to write my own Science Fiction novel, or Scientifiction, as Dr. Narlikar calls it. Currently I am in the process of reading one of his many such novels to get proper inspiration related to Indianisation of science fiction as is the theme in his novels and would be in mine. Best of luck for me and Thank you to my Astronomy inspiration, Dr. Jayant Narlikar sir. Salute!

#ShareTheLoad with Ariel

It has always been a social convention that females are meant to do the household work and the males are supposed to earn a living for their family. But with the changing social perceptions and decentralization of economic dependency, this notion of gender-ba(i)sed division of work does not hold fact in today's era. Still, how to dismantle the deep-rooted stereotype in Indian mentality is a super-challenge in itself.

One of the best ways to tackle this age-old stereotype is to inculcate proper values of gender equality in the upcoming generation. For what the children see in their household shapes their perception and personality, they should be educated, both in theory and practice, how to #ShareTheLoad.

1) First and foremost, a child should be taught to do all his chores by himself ever since his childhood, and  should not be dependent on family members, mainly the females of the household, to trivial but pivotal chores like fetching drinking water for themselves, etc.

2) The next generation would be unbiased towards this 'division of labour' only when they believe in NOT saying to their sister(s)/mother in the family 'mere kapde dho dena' / 'do wash my clothes today'. Parents should ensure that a child is washing, at the least, their own undergarments when he gets enrolled in 4th or 5th standard in school. This would implant in them the idea of doing their own laundry in future. Although in higher classes due to pressure of competitive studies, a student might not get enough time for laundry and has to depend on their parents for the purpose, but in situations when no elder is available at home or when mother/father are ill, they should take the primary task of doing their own laundry, at the least, if not everyone else's in the house. The main idea is to #ShareTheLoad.

3) Everyone in the household should know how to cook, atleast the basics, and not only the female members. And I am not talking about how to prepare readymade noodles, instant pasta and soups over here, definitely not the Maggi. They should know how to cook over gas stove simple food items, like roti/chapati, dal, rice, so that they could feed themselves and their younger siblings as well when need arises in case of exceptional situations.

The above are just a very few examples how our next generation could get rid of wrong prejudices still prevalent in our society. Everyone shall help in rebuilding our nation as per their own talents and skills. Jai Hind!

P.S. -- Laundry is not simply a women's job any more and the GenNext should be equally perceptive of this vision.

P.P.S. -- I am taking part in the #ShareTheLoad Challenge with Ariel and Akshara at BlogAdda.

IndiMeet: Horlicks special

It's not a hidden fact that nutrition is the most important thing for us to live healthy. And daily dose of recommended nutrition is what makes us strong inside so that we can grow outside. But various national studies conducted in major cities of India have found out that almost 80% of our children are not getting proper nutrition in their diet. Based on this topic, we had a successful bloggers' meet conducted by IndiBlogger and Horlicks last Sunday evening at Hotel Taj Vivanta at Bengaluru.

After we got refreshed by Horlicks stirred mango drinks, the stage was taken by Jill Castle, renowned nutritionist from USA, and she shared facts and truth about today's food, children's nutrition and various studies supporting the fact that a healthy looking body may not be healthy inside. Later Amaan Khan, head of marketing at GSK, and doctors from esteemed hospitals shared their research about the state of malnutrition in Indian children, about Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA) among various other facts.

Important points:
  • Micronutrients are essential and Horlicks has relaunched its product and now provides 100% RDA for all 23 vital nutrients.
  • Western diet should be avoided or minimized.
  • Pasteurized milk need not be boiled again at home
  • Diet Diversification and Food Fortification are the best methods to ensure proper nutrition to the child
  • Egg and milk are the only whole foods.
  • Intake of Organic fruits and vegetables should be increased.

Since it was Mothers Day and many bloggers seemed to be supporting the cause by carrying their children to the venue to give space and support to their wives, the theme of the meet was aimed at mothers who should make effort to provide proper nutrition to their children, daily.

" Only a Mother Can Give What She Does Not Have "

Following the mantra above, Mothers' Day was celebrated in a unique style by making all aware about how to take care of their child's nutrition requirements. Following it was an interesting group quiz game regarding

Fabulous dinner was served with awesome desserts and we headed home with a special bag of Horlicks goodies. Plus, meeting with blogger friends after one and a half months brought rejuvenation to each others' lives.

P.S. -- Thank you IndiBlogger and Horlicks for such an amazing and fun-filled event.

Gail - Indian Speed Star

An initiative to strengthen the sport of athletics

IndiBlogger Launches IndiPR.com

A self-learning engine that automatically targets the right publishers

Thousands of businesses, products and services are launched everyday across the world. When these products go live, a Press Release (like the one you’re currently reading) is usually the first order of business. Businesses of various sizes, including start-ups, can now have their Press Releases published by relevant influencers in less than 72 hours.

IndiPR.com was built to make it extremely simple for a business to get their Press Releases published by top bloggers. All a business has to do is upload their Press Release and the ‘Automated Influencer Targeting Engine’, or ‘AITE’ for short, proceeds to accept applications and automatically shortlists bloggers based on various factors including internal ratings and rankings. Once shortlisted, the influencers do their research and publish their articles.

Anoop Johnson, Co-founder & Director of Marketing at IndiBlogger, adds, “With a starting budget of just USD 150, a business of any size will be able to get their press releases published by influential bloggers with a few clicks.”

IndiPR.com assists digital marketers with a variety of tasks including, but not limited to, SEO, content marketing, generating awareness and gaining much needed conversations around the product, driven by internet users on influencer platforms like blogs.

One of the main issues that most marketers face when working with influencers is the cumbersome process associated with identifying and targeting each Influencer. Karthik DR, Co-founder & Business Head at IndiBlogger says, “The amount of time that people spend in trying to identify and contact influencers is huge. With IndiPR.com, you don't have to worry about any of this as the system just needs your Press Release. The rest is history!”

In the future, IndiPR.com will carry more than just Press Releases. Influencers will be able to get creative assignments, get invitations to attend the trendiest launch events and be privy to the latest news on the planet before the world wakes up to it.

Renie Ravin, the Founder and CEO of IndiBlogger, says, “We believe that this system will help Influencers with fresh and new content on their site every day. In a way, you could be writing about the next Google without even realising its immense potential.”

Holi Hai...

Undoubtedly and unarguably, Holi and Diwali are the most celebrated festivals in our country. Since the good old days I remember clearly, Holi has been celebrated in its truest form of free spirit. I have been a simple, sincere but playful kid for the most of my childhood, but Holi is one festival which inaugurates the notorious person in me and I become colourful not only on the outside but also in spirit.

Gulaal is for adults and elders; as kids our version of Holi started and ended with colours and pichkaris, but not ever complete without delectable home-made sweets called gunjiyas. Drenched in coloured water and mouthful of gunjiyas are the story of every Holi celebrations. But there was one time when I got to spend my Holi holidays at my native village, instead of my hometown where I have been brought up and educated. And, fyi, my village lies in distt. Mathura. And if you haven't heard about the Holi celebration in Mathura (or Braj). The true festive nature of Holi is celebrated at Mathura, where Holi continues for 5-7 days and not just one day of colour celebrations.

And when I got to play Holi with my extended family, and that means innumerable cousins, at my big ancestral house in Mathura, one can not even imagine how much fun we had then.

We played with gulaal on one day, second day was for colours, third day was for water puddles (keechad), and all the days were for fun. I remember climbing onto towering ancient roofs to escape from the reach of elder cousins who were hell-bent on transforming my look for the next few days by pasting deep colours as well as the notorious villain - silver paint. I remember using all my limbs jumping from one branch to another of our beloved Neem tree in the courtyard along with another same age cousin brother. I remember another cousin sis throwing gunjiyas to me to satiate my hunger when I could not come down from the tree for the sake of my skin (to save it from oil paint and silver paint).

Oh my! That was really some truesome fun on the occasion of Holi I am not going to forget my whole life. But life has become complex since then and we all have settled in different cities for livelihood. Holi is fast becoming a forgetful festival in today's fast-moving life. The glory is gradually trodding downwards, atleast in urban areas.

But fear no more, my cousins, I am flying back tomorrow to my hometown and will be visiting my village next week before the Holi day and would try to replicate all the fun with my nephews and nieces who are of similar age which I was previously. But this Holi they are not going to get any respite from their ever-good Chacha, ha ha! ;)

Life Memories

The best thing that has happened to me in recent times is the inclusion of my wife in my life. In just one year of our marriage we have had loads of memories to make and cherish for the rest of our lives. We enjoyed our honeymoon in the lap of nature at Dharamshala/Mcleodganj. We pumped our adrenaline sky high while paragliding at Bir-Billing, soaring over hills and valleys of Himachal. And we celebrated our first wedding anniversary just last month which my better half was waiting for with full anticipation. Everything had to be special - the cake, the rose, the candles, dinner.

I am sharing a scrapbook of our short yet but fun-filled memories together.

Memories for Life scrapbook

Since we decided to celebrate the day between us, we didn't step outside for dinner because of traffic and helmet-on-saree confusions; and ordered the food online. Next day we booked a table at Barbeque Nation, Lido Mall for one specific reason. I had earlier seen the staff there celebrating customers' birthdays/anniversaries with special cake and joyous song. And the surprise was I hadn't told my wife that there would be any celebration of occasion for us at the restaurant.

Just after our main course meal was over and we started the dessert, the Bbq Nation staff came clapping and singing to our table with kiwi pulp topped cake. And the surprise and joy on Her face was a sight. She was extremely excited seeing all the celebration. Staff took couple of our pictures cutting the cake and later presented us with a beautiful memento of the printed photo of the same converted into a paper photo frame. Wow! That was absolutely an unexpected surprise for us. And it added stars to our most memorable memory of the D-day.

Another one of the super memorable day we had when we jumped off hilltop and did paragliding for half an hour during our honeymoon. I have always been an adventure junkie and know the taste of thrill, but it was the first for my wife. She was delightedly thrilled to the core when she found herself flying higher above the birds, leave alone the lush green covered mountains and the teeny-tiny houses as visible from up above.

I can never forget her face on these two days when she was so so delighted and that's the most beautiful memory of her I keep in my heart. A lot of memories to be made yet and life is gonna be so much adorable with her by my side.

P.S. -- Share your #MemoriesForLife like I’ve done at BlogAdda for HDFC Life.

Laughter: the best medicine in Love

Laughter is the best medicine in love, they say. What no one says but still understands is that Laughter is the best therapy in Love too.

And with Valentine's Day just around corner, give her the gift of perennial Laughter. Evergreen smiles.

The incident I am going to narrate here is a very recent one. Me and my wife, along with another couple, made an on-the-spot plan to visit Lalbagh Botanical Garden in Bangalore on the occasion of Republic Day Flower Show. The outing went to be a refreshing one with initial hiccups of parking and crowd. And we came back home to live happily ever after. But as it happened, for next 2 days I couldn't find even an iota of time to upload the pictures we clicked with our digicam as well as smartphones, she started teasing me lightly that I don't care for her.

So, yesterday as I reached home after work, I made it my first priority to surprise her not only by uploading a few of the selected pics but also by giving witty captions to her pics.

And here is the beautiful outcome of the sincere thought:

Oh, I forgot to mention I do poetry too, hence of course the witty caption(s) had to be in the form of romantic shayari. And my wife found it too amusing and couldn't stop smiling when she saw the notification in her facebook and devoured it with earnestness.

The lines actually mean:
Beautiful natured lady among blossoming flowers
Looks to me very loving and adorable

I believe that life can be enjoyed more beautifully if you have someone to share it with you. And small things like the above example of making her smile genuinely go really a long way to incorporate and strengthen the bond of pure love among the two.

And this is just one single case, the incident above. I try to make her laugh everyday by making silly jokes revolving around her/us/anything. And she reciprocates by getting involved in the moment which makes our day literally. It's not that I am the only one trying to do something like this, she also is equally adept at making me laugh with her innocent humour and the result is always a laugh or two or.... it goes on and on.

Now go and make your better half grin from ear to ear. And before that, do watch the video below. Keep laughing, keep enjoying.

Music: IndiMarathon

Music is life to the ears. Music is soul to the living. But music is so much more while travelling. It alleviates the boredom and keeps one on its toes while driving. Music brings out the truest emotions whatever one is feeling at the moment and whatever kind of music he is listening to.

P.S. -- This blog post is inspired by the blogging marathon hosted on IndiBlogger for the launch of the #Fantastico Zica from Tata Motors. You can apply for a test drive of the hatchback Zica today.
